Valentine's Day

Thank you to all of the students who took the initiative to speak with their parents Friday, February 8 or over the weekend about the classroom consequences for our continuing behavior issues. I am proud of you for taking responsibility for your actions. Mr. Browning came in and spoke to the 5th grade about their behavior prior to Catholic Schools Week, as we have had serious behavior issues with each free dress day we have had so far.

The class decided in a vote what their consequences would be for the continuous talking during lessons and the abundant amount of names that are on the board daily and weekly. The class voted that taking away "red, white, and pink" free dress on Valentine's day and not having a party were appropriate. They mentioned they had already purchased Valentine's, so they will be able to hand those and or goodie bags out before lunch. That is the extent of our celebration. We will discuss the Catholic aspect of St. Valentine in addition to our normal religion lesson.

It is my hope that you, as parents, will help to reinforce good positive classroom behavior with your students so we can continue on and move forward from here. I have already seen a big improvement in overall behavior and participation since we, as a class, made this decision last Friday. The consequences for improving behavior will be an Easter celebration. Thank you for your continued support. I would be more than happy to speak to parents if they have questions about their child's behavior.
