Ch 3 Math

You may notice that we are skipping lessons in chapter 3. Why are we doing this? As we prepare to transition to common core standards in math, I want to make sure we get all relevant information covered so that 5th grade is ready for middle school next year! We need to spend extra time in measurement and geometry this year to make up for standards that weren't previously required of students.

What does my child need to know from Ch 3?

3-1 know what these charts look like, be able to identify and name them.

Tally charts
Frequency tables
Line plots *common core
Pictographs
Bar graphs

We will focus more on line plots since they are part of the common core standards. We will use many of these other graphs in science and social studies.

3-3 coordinate graphing
This is a skill needed for middle school math and social studies.

3-7 mean, median, mode
Very important life skill!

This test will come up quickly! Just because we are skipping lessons does not make the test easy. Please remind your child to ask questions if they do not understand something.
